Woodette came to mind from time to time, more in jest than because I thought she’d ever show up again.
She was long gone so I figured I was in the clear.
Anyway, my friend didn’t seem to mind my advice and I knew she needed to hear it.
In a previous post, Letting Go Is Hard to Do, I introduced Woodette. She’s a woodpecker I’m certain God sent to hammer on the back of our house, and to hammer home the lesson of letting go. Woodette nearly drove me crazy for six months. When she left, I thought “lesson learned.”
That was, until the banging started at 11:13 a.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2010.
“Wouldn’t it be funny if Woodette came back?”
I remember thinking this just days before she returned, probably because I had an inkling my friend’s life was none of my business. But seriously, was Woodette on call?
Within two days, I received two more signs. All the while, Woodette pecked.
The first was a post in my inbox about letting go. Nothing aha-like about that one. It could have happened to anyone.
But then came the second sign, the one from my husband who had no idea I’d returned to meddling and no idea Woodette was back.
He called to tell me a funny story about a place he found that refinishes old doors.
“You’re not going to believe the name?” he said.
“What is it?” I asked.
“The Woodpecker Shop. Isn’t that funny?”
“Yes, that’s hilarious.”
I’ve always heard God speaks in a still small voice, but I promise you, that afternoon I heard chuckles.
What character defect keeps showing up in your life? Have you gotten any funny reminders about letting it go?
WRite wHere I’m supposed to be – God, I’m keeping reminders close at hand. We’re good for now, right?
