~ Movie Trivia ~

The most popular of the holiday songs written by Irving Berlin for the movie Holiday Inn (1 hr. 41 min.), 1942, turned out to be “White Christmas.” Holiday Inn hotels, started in 1952, are named for the movie.

White Christmas, the romantic musical based on Berlin’s song, was filmed on the same set used by Paramount 12 years earlier for Holiday Inn. White Christmaswas originally planned to reunite Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, his Holiday Inncostar. Fred turned down the role because he was retired and in his place starred Danny Kaye.

Bill Murray and Chevy Chase were considered, alongside Tim Allen who landed the role, for Santa in The Santa Clause.

Buddy’s best quote in Elf is, “I just like to smile! Smiling’s my favorite.”

Top television movies include the longest running TV special airing consecutively since its debut in 1964, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Burl Ives was narrator as voice of Sam the Snowman. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) appeared on CBS more times than The Wizard of Oz. Undersized, scraggly Christmas trees started being called “Charlie Brown trees” after the movie aired.

  1. Love it! I am feeling pretty jolly myself today. Want to go decorate something. Maybe the front porch. Oh and did I tell you I bought paint for the front door today? Keep your fingers crossed.

    • That means photos are on their way. Can’t wait to see the results.

Even though I’m feeling jolly, decorating still has to wait. It’ll be okay, though. I’ll just leave it up till February.
